(updated Oct 2024) Don’t joke when it comes to the servers that host your website. This is a list of the Top Web Hosting Companies in 2024. Let’s check the top 6.
I’ve already the top hosting companies in Nigeria, so you may also want to check that review out.
Web hosting services are the foundation on which 90% of websites are built. If you want an online presence then you’re going to want the best web hosting for your needs – and that’s where we come in.
I’ve used more than 10 different web hosting companies since we started as a web design firm, so this list is not only experience based, it’s as legit as it can get. One of the things to look out for when making a choice on web hosting companies is pricing, storage space, bandwidth, number of domains and subdomains, email services, WordPress integration and more.
Hosting basics: Shared, VPS or Dedicated Hosting?
In a Shared hosting service, one user shares a server with other sites and web hosting accounts. Shared hosting is good for smaller websites, those that don’t use a lot of bandwidth resources.
Virtual Private Servers (VPS) or Cloud Servers enable you to scale resources as and when you need them, rather than being restricted by the limitations of a physical server. They draw from a pool of processing power, memory and storage depending on your requirements.
With a dedicated server, you have the entire web server for your own use with significantly faster performance at the core of the offering. You will have to pay extra though and you will be in charge of maintenance.
Web hosting companies usually these three above.
Should you use Free web hosting?
There are legit free web hosts like WordPress.com and Blogger, (still very much available) but it is severely limited. It’s good for blogging and setting up an informal website but no SSL, no emails, and no autonomy. I’d really advise against it.
So now that you know the basics of hosting and it’s variations, let’s dig into the list of my 5 top best hosting companies in 2024. They are the best of the best, in my opinion, and honestly, I’ve used half on this list for a while now – and by that I mean years – with no issues.
1. InMotion Hosting
Inmotion hosting is number 1 on the Top Web Hosting Companies in 2024. And it makes it to number one because it is literally the one that hosts most of our websites.
InMotion Hosting offers a broad range of services, from three different shared hosting hosting plans to VPS through to dedicated hosting. The company ethos is to provide a first-class service from well-trained staff without cutting corners on support or overselling server space.
This popular web host is a respected and professional operation which has been in business for over 15 years, with an impressive array of plans on offer including shared hosting which starts from just a few dollars per month.
What’s also good to see is that InMotion Hosting bundles some pretty neat extras into its plans – services that other providers often charge extra for – including the likes of malware and DDoS protection, ‘spam-safe’ email and a system of basic backups, with plans starting from $5.99 per month.
InMotion provides both cPanel and Softaculous panels with its hosting, and another strong suit is some top-notch technical support should you get stuck with anything.
2. Siteground Hosting
Siteground’s START-UP Hosting is $3.99/Month – about N6783/month. Multiply that by 12 months, you’re almost at N82k/year. And for top quality hosting as well.
The only complaint I have is that after 1 year it goes back to $17.99/month, which is outrageous and makes them quite expensive, especially if your currency doesn’t help. (Yes, Naira, I’m looking at you!) I also think that inMotion has a much better offer, and less limits.
Bias aside, I think they are simply one of the best hosting companies around, and they’ve been around for a long long time. Second only to a few.
3. Bluehost
Bluehost is a company based in Utah which is owned by web giant Endurance International Group (EIG). It offers basic shared hosting from $2.95 monthly (on a three-year contract), with WordPress plans starting at $20 per month (although that’s also a discounted introductory rate).
Notice that the Bluehost rates are almost the same as Inmotion’s rates. However I wouldn’t fall for it. I would only go for this because it’s popular and good for beginners to the hosting platform.
For the money, you get automated setup for WordPress, not to mention other popular apps via a Mojo Marketplace-powered system. There’s also a cPanel-based area to allow expert users to tweak things.
4. Web Hosting Hub
Web Hosting Hub provides affordable web hosting for bloggers and small businesses. Founded in 2010, the main goal of Web Hosting Hub is to provide easy-to-set-up, affordable web hosting services.
Besides shared hosting, Web Hosting Hub also offers WordPress hosting, which allows for a much higher level of security for WordPress sites. All plans come with SSH access, which allows you to access your server using a command line. That way, you can manage your hosting account faster than a graphical user interface is able to provide.
5. Godaddy
Even though I did a review of why you should not use Godaddy for domains, they still make it on my list of top web hosting companies in 2024.
Godaddy is one of the largest in the game and probably the best known one as well. It is also the biggest domain name registrar in the world with tens of millions of domain names in its portfolio. GoDaddy’s cheapest web hosting package (Starter) is decently kitted out at $4.99 per month when you sign for a year. I like that the fees are upfront, and there no hidden fees.
I’d rather you try the 1st 4 hosting companies above, first — before you check out Godaddy though. 🙂 wink!
6. Namecheap Hosting
Founded in 2000, Namecheap began by offering value-priced domains and excellent customer service. Today, they have over 3 million clients and manage over 7 million domains.
In addition to domains and full web hosting packages, Namecheap sells SSL certificates, privacy protection services, and more. We have some websites on Namecheap and I can genuinely tell you that Namecheap is legit.
It’s called namecheap because it is the cheapest of the lot.
The downside, if you can call it that, is that there’s no phonecall or physical address, and you can only access their customer service via Live Chat, but asides that, you can trust them.
Namecheap Domains seem to be the best place to get cheap domains, and is less than $20/yr for the first year. Renewals are less than $25 and this is why they are on my list of top web hosting companies in 2024. You will love them.
Hope this guide helps!
