Do you want a job?
Sometimes people really need to take the initiative and start something. Not everyone is cut out to be an employee; some people are born to be leaders, while some can’t even stand on their own. I know for a certainty that what most people are wary about is the starting; but once they start, they can go places.
There are many questions we need to start asking ourselves if we really want to move up the level of our careers, and I think now is the time to start asking these questions. And I’m the one that’s going to ask them. Here. Continue reading.
What is a JOB?
I see the typical 9-5 job as a waste of time and energy, because there’s no way working for someone will ever earn you money greater than the person you work for. But just for the sake of argument, let’s define what a job is:
The principal activity in your life that you do to earn money.
A specific piece of work required to be done as a duty or for a specific fee.
Africans have a different mentality as to what a job is while other continents have a more realistic mentality. If you ask me, in Nigeria, a job is where you work, while others will say a job is what you do. It’s all in the mind.
First, do you need a place to work, or you need to find something to do?
A Place to work VS. Something to do VS. Earning a living
Ever wondered what makes people resign from well paying jobs just to serve as a cafe waiter in a hotel?
They have reasons. Some people would give ANYTHING just to be able to leave their homes in the morning and say they’re going to work. As far as I’m concerned, that sucks. Sometimes in a month, work related, I don’t leave my desk at home for more than 3 times in a week, yet at the end, my monthly pay is far greater than some people who have worked for close to 7 years in somebody’s company.
Having something to do on the other hand gives you a place to work and also earns you a living. Remember the saying that, “don’t give me a fish but teach me how to fish?” Yea, that’s what it’s about. Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook had something to do – hacking computers – but now he has a place to work and he’s most definitely earning a living. And what a living it is!
Yeah, sometimes you have empty bank accounts and doubts hang out with you but if you’re focused, you’ll never be left in the dark for long!
Once you’re able to decide what it is you want, then you can go for it. Some people tell me they want to start a company, open a business, start a record label and next thing I know, they are applying for a 9-5. You can’t have it both ways. Yeah, you need the capital – So does everyone else. What makes you different is the fact that you made a move. Make a decision…and then go all out for it!
The way to go…
Now is the time to go for it. If you’re waiting for the right time, then I’m sorry to say the right time may never come.
The list is endless. Many people have taken the initiative and are now forces to be reckoned with. Mark Zuckerberg, Seth Godin, Martin Luther and the rest of them. No one supported them, so don’t expect anyone to support you.
So what do you say? 9-5? Freelance? Broke?
